BALL HAWKS FOCUS ON UVA'S DEFENSIVE BACKS

DISRUPTIVE FORCE

"Our mentality when the ball is in the air? Go get it. Don’t knock it down, go get it. The ball is all that matters in football. So if the ball is in the air, go get it." - De'Vante Cross

THE GOAL

"To hold the standard and make it even better than what we have. Nobody is satisfied with eight (wins in 2018) and we talked about today – that eight is the enemy of great. We are trying to do more, so we are looking at what we didn’t do well last year and we are not going to pat ourselves on the back and say what we did do well. We are going to look and take an honest assessment of ourselves and look and see what we need to fix and we are going to focus really hard on making that better."- Nick Howell, Defensive Coordinator & Secondary Coach

"Spring ball is important because you get to build a foundation on what you are going to do going into next season It provides film to watch throughout the summer to prepare you going into fall." - De'Vante Cross

Safety Joey Blount on Coach Howell

"He is a student of the game. He is always trying to learn something and get better and he’s never satisfied with one thing. He is always willing to go the extra length to make someone else better and he is willing to help us no matter what. He’s always there for us and he cares about us as we grow as men."

LEADER OF THE PACK

Senior cornerback Bryce Hall, an All-ACC defensive back, led the nation last year for the most pass breakups (22) and tied for most passes defended (24). He was named to multiple All-America teams and posted the 10th best grade for a CB in Pro Football Focus' history.

"They’re excellent. They’re great kids. All going after their goals and trying really hard every day to get better." - Nick Howell
